When it comes to destination weddings, Italy is a very popular choice among couples and for many reasons. Whether it is a romantic wedding in Venice or a cute ceremony in Tuscany, Italy has a lot to offer couples.
One of the most incredible locations in Italy to get married is the famous city of Sorrento. Located in the south of Italy, Sorrento is easily accessible from Naples and Pompeii and also overlooks the Gulf of Naples, which is a truly beautiful sight in itself.
Why get married in Sorrento?
There are many reasons why couples are drawn to Sorrento for their weddings, one of which is the stunning and picturesque ocean views that can be enjoyed. There are miles and miles of beautiful scenes to be seen on the town’s tuff coastline that will leave you breathless and also serve as an incredible backdrop for your wedding photographs.
Getting married in Sorrento
Situated high above the Bay of Naples, home to lemon groves that provide the fruit for the city’s famous Limoncello, Sorrento’s stunning location has drawn visitors for centuries.
The town of Sorrento is the gateway to the Amalfi Coast, and can be seen close to the island of Capri, while Mount Vesuvius and Mount Faito provide a dramatic backdrop to the red-roofed houses that rise from the sea of the Bay of Naples.
While there are three locations that allow for civil ceremonies, you’ll still be spoiled for choice if you’re planning a destination wedding in Sorrento.
For sea views, as you say, head 10 minutes from Sorrento’s centre in Piano di Sorrento to Villa Fondi, a ruined 17th-century villa overlooking the Bay of Naples and Mount Vesuvius, with olive and palm trees and botanical gardens – you can also hold the ceremony on the rooftop terrace and inside, along with the gardens themselves.
The medieval cloister of San Francesco is the most popular, the monastery building dating back to the 13th century, while summer weddings can be held outside in the beautiful gardens.
Or the Museo Correale still has antique furniture decorating the luxurious 17th-century villa and a citrus grove and ancient trees that provide shade in its gardens.
With its holiday rental, family home and luxury hotels, some with kids clubs and rooftop terraces, Sorrento is also a great base for those traveling as a family, looking for a pampering or looking for nightlife.
Also, head to the hills, where you’ll find elaborate venues and villas to escape to.
