The Sorrento Peninsula and the Amalfi Coast are among the most fascinating destinations in Italy, not only for their crystal-clear beaches and characteristic villages, but also for the incredible scenic trails that allow you to admire breathtaking landscapes between sky and sea. Staying at La Terrazza Family Holidays, you will have the opportunity to explore some of the most beautiful trails in Europe, suitable for both experienced hikers and families with children. Here are the five trails we recommend you don’t miss during your stay.
Difficulty: Medium
Length: 7.8 km
Estimated time: 3-4 hours
Height difference: 650 m
Starting point: Bomerano (hamlet of Agerola)
Point of arrival: Nocelle (hamlet of Positano)
Considered one of the most beautiful coastal paths in the world, the “Path of the Gods” owes its name to views so spectacular they seem divine. The trail winds between Bomerano and Nocelle, offering incomparable views of the Amalfi Coast, Capri and the Li Galli islands.
The trail is mostly downhill if you take it from Bomerano toward Positano, with some flat sections. Along the way you will encounter old farmhouses, cultivated terraces and rich Mediterranean vegetation. On a clear day, the view sweeps to the tip of the Sorrento Peninsula and the island of Capri.
Family tip: Although it is classified as medium difficulty, this trail is also passable by children ages 8 and up who are used to walking. Starting from Bomerano, most of the trail is downhill, making the hike less strenuous.
How to get there from La Terrazza Family Holidays: Take a SITA bus to Amalfi, then change to the Agerola line to Bomerano. On the way back, from Nocelle you can get off at Positano by local shuttle service or walk (about 1,500 steps) and then take the SITA bus back to Sorrento.
Difficulty: Easy
Length: 3 km
Estimated time: 1.5 hours
Height difference: 180 m
Starting point: Maiori
Point of arrival: Minori
A shorter and more accessible trail, ideal for families and those looking for a hike that is not too strenuous. The Lemon Trail connects the picturesque villages of Maiori and Minori, crossing the ancient lemon groves that have made the Amalfi Coast famous.
Along the way, you can admire the traditional terraces where the famous “Sfusato Amalfitano,” the Coast’s huge IGP lemon, is grown, and enjoy splendid views of the Gulf of Salerno. The trail is well-marked and alternates between short sections of steps and pleasant flat paths.
Family tip: This trail is perfect for families with children of all ages. During spring and summer, the fragrance of blooming or ripe lemons makes the experience even more sensory.
How to get there from La Terrazza Family Holidays: Take the SITA bus to Maiori. At the end of the excursion, you can return to Sorrento from Minori on another SITA bus.
Difficulty: Medium-difficult
Length: 7 km (round trip)
Estimated time: 3-3.5 hours
Height difference: 500 m
Starting/finishing point: Termini (hamlet of Massa Lubrense)
This hike will take you to the tip of the Sorrento Peninsula, to Punta Campanella, the point where the Gulf of Naples meets the Gulf of Salerno. The trail offers spectacular panoramic views of Capri, only a few kilometers away, and the Amalfi Coast.
The trail begins in the small village of Termini and follows an ancient path, partly paved in Roman stone, that leads to the lighthouse at Punta Campanella. Here you will find the remains of a medieval watchtower and, on particularly clear days, you can almost touch the island of Capri.
Tip for hikers: The final section has some rocky passages exposed to the sun, so it is advisable to bring plenty of water and protect yourself from the sun, especially in the summer months.
How to get there from La Terrazza Family Holidays: Take the EAV bus to Massa Lubrense and then the connecting bus to Termini. Alternatively, you can reach Termini by car in about 30 minutes.
Difficulty: Difficult
Length: 16 km (stretch from Santa Maria del Castello to Monte Faito)
Estimated time: 7-8 hours
Height difference: 1,200 m
Starting point: Santa Maria del Castello
Point of arrival: Monte Faito
For experienced hikers, the Alta Via dei Monti Lattari is an unforgettable adventure that offers some of the most spectacular views in the entire region. The trail runs along the crest of the Monti Lattari, the mountain range that separates the Sorrento Peninsula from the Amalfi Coast.
The section we suggest goes from Santa Maria del Castello to Monte Faito, passing by Monte Sant’Angelo at Tre Pizzi, the highest peak of the chain (1,444 m). From here, the view sweeps 360 degrees: on one side the Gulf of Naples with Vesuvius, on the other the Amalfi Coast, and on clear days, even the mountains of Cilento.
Tip for hikers: This trail requires good physical preparation and proper equipment. It is advisable to tackle it in spring or fall to avoid the summer heat. Not suitable for children.
How to get there from La Terrazza Family Holidays: The best way is to take a cab to Santa Maria del Castello. From Monte Faito you can return by cable car to Castellammare di Stabia and then by train or bus to Sant’Agnello.
Difficulty: Easy-medium
Length: 4 km (round trip)
Estimated time: 2 hours
Height difference: 250 m
Starting/finishing point: Sorrento center
An easily accessible hike directly from Sorrento, ideal for those who want to combine a nature walk with a visit to the city. The trail begins in the center of Sorrento and follows the ancient valley where numerous water mills once stood, some of which are still visible although in ruins.
The trail enters a lush gorge with lush vegetation and a special microclimate that has fostered the development of rare species of ferns. As you continue, the landscape becomes wilder and more atmospheric, with small waterfalls and rock formations shaped by water.
Family tip: The first section is easy and suitable for everyone, while the final part requires a little more attention. Perfect for a half-day exploration with children, which can be combined with a visit to the historic center of Sorrento.
How to get there from La Terrazza Family Holidays: You can easily reach the center of Sorrento on foot (about 25 minutes) or by public transportation.
Best time: Spring (April-June) and fall (September-October) offer ideal temperatures for hiking. July and August can be very hot, so if you hike in summer, start very early in the morning.
